WETF member Tricia Pedlar interviewed for International Women's Day project

The Alice Hawkins Project funded by the Heritage Lottery Fund will document the experiences, achievements, challenges and triumphs of local women living in Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland over the last 100 years. So many women have fascinating personal stories that never get shared, and many do not realize how inspirational and important these personal experiences can actually be.

During the interview, Tricia spoke about her life, career, family, barriers and achievements and the work of the WETF, actively promoting all the women's enterprise work she is involved with.

The aim of the project is to create a permanent archive of “HERstories” documenting the issues and experiences faced by women from all backgrounds and cultural diversities and who are now living locally in Leicester. The project will use Leicester’s multi-layered heritage to encourage young people to make connections with their own personal circumstances, helping them to understand the importance of life events and decisions and also providing them with professional training for the future.

The completed archive of interviews will be kept at the County record office and used to create curriculum materials for future use in schools throughout the county. The stories will also be published on our website and via the Leicester Mercury and BBC Radio Leicester.
